Mind Body and She @ Menopause

MIND body and She  @ Menopause

Menopause and  periods! Is it just this or something more? Is it more about mind than just periods?

Menopause is a phase of haywire winds playing on the mind. It's sometimes a storm or sometime a withdrawing wave!

Menopause is not a day but actually a phase which may begin 2-5 years before and last for a similar period after the periods have stopped. The ovaries slowly stop functioning, causing a fall in estrogen — the hormone of youthful and energetic life in women. Coming closer to 40, this wave becomes erratic and unpredictable, beyond the control of the woman herself. She is confused with herself.

Periods irregular

Some heavy some scanty

PMS worsening

Breasts tender

Beginning to lose shape..

Face changing

Skin sagging here and there

And so is the fat Ohh so in undesired places..

Diet exercise nothing works

Sexual drive change

Sometimes high

Oftentimes a no no Dryness or dry mind

How will I know?

Memory plays games

Sleep is on a toss

The heart beats keep jumping

When she wants not

The sweats are a distress

The pee is it the same?

Or I'm all gone wrong

Will I be the same again..?

Clouded thoughts

A storm in the brain

Work and family

Multitasking is now a pain

Irritability rises

Speed is slowing

Is there some meaning

Has my life been in vain?

She's changed

She's difficult

She's impossible

She's better left alone

The sounds come from All around

But she's dealt them Earlier too..

What's hard to believe

She believes them too.

The struggle is there

More within

Than with the world.

Loving partners

Caring children

Supporting family

Helping colleagues

All may not always be there..

Pick your soul mates

They will always be there

In person or in kind..

Be kind to yourself

Love yourself, accept yourself

Be your own mother

Take a breather..

Sing, dance, travel, read..

Do what heals your mind.

The waves in your mind

Are sure for real.

The journey is yours — You ought to navigate this cycle of life

Steady and slow.. Step by step, taking control.

One question remains — why don't people around understand this phase?

Indians were largely in joint families, where women went through this phase together, struggled together, but never knew it had a name or a hormonal explanation. Even now many women don't know, don't speak up, don't seek help. Leave aside men and children — even women themselves don't fully understand what this mind change is all about.

Times are changing and so is the sensitivity of coming generations towards these issues, irrespective of gender. This will take a while — a few decades maybe.

Till then, ladies at menopause — befriend the mind. Pause it when it's playing monkey tricks with you.

Fine tune the music there — Life's got to get better.

The why and how and what to do..therapy or something that keeps me cool..answers to follow soon
